Nitrazepam belongs to the class of medications called benzodiazepines. It is used for short-term treatment of sleeping problems (insomnia), such as difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings during the night, and early-morning awakening. It is also used to manage myoclonic seizures. It works by slowing down the nerves in the brain (the central nervous system).

Your doctor will find the lowest dose to control your symptoms.

The dose that your doctor prescribes will depend on the nature of your illness, your reaction to the medicine, your age and bodyweight.

Always take Mogadon exactly as your doctor has told you. Do not change the prescribed dose yourself. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how to take this medicine. If you think that the effect of your medicine is too weak or too strong, talk to your doctor.

Mogadon is not for use in children.

Each white, round, biplane, bevelled-edged tablet, scored on one side and engraved "MOGADON" over "5" on the other side, contains nitrazepam 5 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, and microcrystalline cellulose.

In patients with chronic pulmonary insufficiency, and in patients with chronic renal or hepatic disease, dosage may need to be reduced. Benzodiazepines are contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic insufficiency. Mogadon should not be used alone to treat depression or anxiety associated with depression, since suicide may be precipitated in such patients. Benzodiazepines should be used with extreme caution in patients with a history of alcohol or drug abuse. Benzodiazepines are not recommended for the primary treatment of psychotic illness. If the patient is awoken during the period of maximum drug activity, recall may be impaired. In cases of loss or bereavement, psychological adjustment may be inhibited by benzodiazepines.

Do not drink alcohol for as long as you are taking Mogadon Tablets. Alcohol will increase the effects of the tablets and this can be dangerous.
